SCHEDULE AND NOTES
The exhibition will open on Monday the 5th of July.
Photographers will have access to the space that day from 12noon to 3pm to set up their work.
There will be a number of people on hand during this time to assist with setting up, and for any last minute needs.
We are developing a visit by various curators, photographers, journalists and gallery owners to an open viewing at 6pm on Thursday the 8th, prior to the opening of Glen E. Friedman’s exhibition at the Light House Cinema. The idea of this visit is to give you the opportunity to engage with a number of professionals and perhaps establish interesting contacts for your future career.
It is important that the work is presented in a professional manner, that the size is consistent, and that the photographers are ready to answer questions from any visitors.
The selected photographers will receive an email with further details on the morning of Monday 28th.
WHAT IS OPEN CALL?
OpenCall 2010 presents an opportunity for Irish-based photographers and artists to showcase their photographic projects. This all-inclusive model hopes to gather a wide variety of interest, impressions and concepts. To attract an extensive participation in its first year, an open theme was proposed, although it was requested that all participants submitted a coherent project of a minimum of 8 images. The works were reviewed by our curators and a final selection of 20 participants will be exhibited at a comprehensive exhibition to be held at The Complex in Smithfield, Dublin - opening on Monday July 5th at 6pm. While the submission process is free for each participant, an administrative fee of €50 was requested for those selected. Photographers were informed to consider this expense before proceeding with their submission.
Instead of hanging the work on the walls at The Complex, works will be presented as photographic prints displayed on supplied tables - one per participant. In this way, a deeper engagement with the work will be fostered, giving visitors an opportunity to participate and discuss face to face with each photographer, who in turn will benefit from more direct feedback. While no works should be for sale at the space, we would suggest that all participants use the event to develop and extend their own personal network by inviting possible patrons, galleries and interested parties. The selected projects will additionally be featured on PhotoIreland’s online gallery.
Curators: Anthony Haughey, Moritz NeuMuller and Angel Luis Gonzalez
